Twin Sun was established in 1989 as a Japanese funded consulting
and R&D firm specializing in network and groupware
technologies. The company also licensed and localized
US-based software for the Japanese market. Twin Sun's
database and groupware products were sold through partnerships with
Japanese workstation vendors such as Japan IBM, Nihon Sun
Microsystems, Japan DEC, NEC, and Hitachi. In the early 1990s, Twin
Sun internationalized significant software applications, such
as Borland's Interbase and Ashton-Tate's dBase IV.
From the mid-1990s, Twin Sun increasingly combined its
Internet-oriented expertise with its proven experience as a solution
provider in Japan, Korea and China. For instance, in cooperation with
its direct marketing partner, in 1994 Twin Sun developed and deployed
the first Internet-based sales automation and home shopping network in
Japan. Since 1996 Twin Sun has also participated in major engagements
with companies such as Bandai in developing state-of-the-art
Internet-based entertainment networks in Japan and the US.
Since 1998, Twin Sun has increasingly focused on harnessing its
marketing and technical abilities for the development joint-venture
relationships with emerging Internet firms. Twin Sun is one of a
handful of companies dedicated to bringing Internet firms and
technologies to the Asia-Pacific markets.
